Banteay Chhmar Temple Tour 1 Day

Discover the hidden Cambodia’s Angkor archaeological complexes, dates back to the late 12th century. The temple is overgrown and invaded by vegetation, very less touristy spot due to its distance. This deserted, ruined temple was listed by the World Monuments Fund as one of the top one hundred most endangered sites in the world.

Destination: Cambodia > Siem Reap > Banteay Meanchhey

Our tour guide and driver will be meeting you at your hotel’s lobby at 7.30am, the journey takes approximately 2.5 hours with a nice sightseeing of rural Cambodia countryside. On the way, we visit local people selling crispy bugs including grasshoppers, delicious crickets etc. You have this unique chance to test a few of them. Continue driving to Banteay Meanchhey province, close to Thai border we then venture to discover the 4th largest Banteay Chhmar temple (commonly called “Citadel of the Cat”) dating from the Angkorian Kingdom, was constructed in the late 12th century under the reign of King Jayavarman VII. Enjoy the guided tour around the area, witness the Angkorian history related to the site, feel the lost temple and its unspoiled surroundings. We will also visit a small, interesting temple of Banteay Torp – constructed at the end of 12th century and it was served as a tribute to the Khmer Army for their defeat of the Cham army leading to Khmer control of the region. Transfer back to hotel.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to these temples is from November to January when the weather is a bit cool and everything looks green, and fresh. Due to the distance, this temple is always less touristy.

Dressing code & What to bring along?

Dressing must be appropriately covered shoulders & knees, this is to show your respect to the locals and active sites. Strong footwear is extremely advised for this trip and should bring along hat, sun cream, sunglasses, insect repellent and extra water to dehydrate due to humidity.
